Pufferfish is an innovative airbag based on 6 sensors integrated in the racing suits that allow together with a GPS and a mother board, hosting additional sensors and a memory for data, to dedect when the pilot is falling and make the airbag open protecting the rider during the collision. In fact, when the sensors detect an accident, the jacket will inflate in the areas where an airbag is present, with the intention of protecting the wearer’s collar bone and neck, as well as keeping strain off of their neck. All thanks to machine learning techniques that have made it possible to analyze the data on movements and which enable us to anticipate scenarios of falls and loss of grip. The device is currently in use in the Moto GP, Moto2, Moto3 and SBK championships and evaluations are underway to bring production to the road.
We developed all the electronics and firmware and a complete software suite for data collection, analysis and simulation.
